One of my favorite holidays to celebrate, Galentine’s Day, comes from the beloved show Parks and Rec. If you need an excuse to hang out with girlfriends, Leslie Knope created the perfect occasion!
“Oh it’s only the best day of the year. Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies.”
Today is Emmy and I’s THIRD Galentine’s together post college. Three Galentine’s days of waffles and coffee and pretending we know how to be adults. We’ve even celebrated it at the same restaurant 3 years in a row! If Eggspectations in Centreville ever goes out of business, we will be in a real pickle.
I personally think it is one of the most beautiful things to celebrate women cheering on other women – especially when Social Media can tell us to compare, compete, and top one another. Whether this is the first time you’ve heard of Galentine’s Day, or if you’ve been a Parks and Rec fan for years, here are a couple of ways to celebrate:
#1 Go out to dinner (preferably where waffles are present) and tell each other five things you respect and love about each other.
#2 If you’re celebrating from far away, you can send a fun little gift! Greetabl is a company that sends fun gift options with a personalized note.
#3 The tried and true phone call. You don’t need to be in the same room to encourage each other!
#4 Plan a future weekend trip and book everything you’ll need for a whole Galentine’s weekend.
#5 Brainstorm things that would make your girlfriends feel loved and appreciated – whether it’s a hand written note sent in the mail, a meal, or even just a gift card for coffee.
