It was SO fun enjoying all of the colors that fall brings with Gene and Abby for their engagement session! We strolled through all the various lookouts at Great Falls, and then made our way to Old Town Alexandria to explore the historical homes and cobblestoned streets. Abby even brought her sweet dog Ginger along, and Ginger had her own flower crown!
How did they meet? Gene and Abby met on Halloween in 2014 at a mutual friends Halloween party. Abby was dressed as a blue footed booby (a bird from the Galapagos Islands) and Gene was dressed as Matthew McConaughey from his role in True Detective.
What would be their dream date night? Their dream date night would involve any kind of travel (hence bringing travel journals along to their engagement session); maybe in Paris with hot chocolate, macaroons, and a dinner by of the Eiffel Tower. More realistically, they really enjoy trying new restaurants in the area and then wrapping up the evening by streaming something from Netflix or HBO. Some of their go to’s are Game of Thrones, Veep, Frasier, and Stranger Things.
How did Gene propose? For a while Gene had been telling Abby to keep the weekend of February 19th available for a little getaway. Little did Abby know Gene had been planning the perfect engagement for her, to take place in New York City on the anniversary of their first trip together (also to NYC). Gene began the week of their engagement by giving Abby a clue as to the location of their getaway in the form of a poem- New York City. The next clue came in her Valentine’s Day card and was about the method of transportation they would be taking. When they arrived in NYC, it was a beautiful, balmy 75 degree February day. Gene presented his third clue to Abby about where they were staying- The Plaza Hotel. Abby could not contain her excitement, it had always been a dream of hers to stay at the Plaza Hotel, and Gene was making it come true, with even more than she knew in store. When they arrived at their room (the Fitzgerald Suite, decorated for The Great Gatsby) Gene gave Abby her final poem, got down on one knee, and asked her to be his forever. As a cherry on top to an already perfect proposal, Gene arranged for two root beer floats (Abby’s favorite dessert beverage) to be pre-delivered to toast to their engagement?
What are they most excited for their wedding day? They are really excited to celebrate with all of their friends and family, and they are especially looking forward to the special moments they will get to spend by themselves to take a breath to let it all soak in.
