We walked along the bustling streets of Charleston with some of Shadi’s extended family expectant for a few days of warmth, sun, and rest. Instead of to-do lists and commuting, we had multiple refills of coffee next to the pool in the morning, bike rides through Kiawah Island, sleeping on the beach, and exploring historic Charleston in the evening. I had never been so relieved to have time off than this July, and Charleston was the perfect place to take a second and pause on all of the busyness. I’ve never been so thankful for rest, movie nights, chicken and waffles for brunch, and exploring new places.
